Developing and using AI technologies can cause all sorts of legal problems. If you use AI to generate computer programs or other code, why are the outputs considered public domain by the Copyright Office and the Patent and Trademark Office? And if those assets are public domain, how do you protect what should be yours? How do investors protect their investments in AI technology and its outputs? How do AI developers reduce the risk of lawsuits from large media companies? How do companies responsibly use AI, and do they need yet another policy document?

At the PA Bar Association Intellectual Property Section's July 15, 2025 meeting, Josh and Lewis shared a brief update on how AI is impacting intellectual property law. Topics included contract best practices, AI-generated deepfakes and music, and recent fair use and trademark cases.

Fred shared pointers with ELAB on how to take advantages of AI's opportunities while mitigating its risks. He discussed how AI is impacting IP law and changing due diligence, M&A practice, and the valuation of business assets. He shared contracting best practices, as well as trends in laws and litigation.

At the 2025 Delaware County Bench Bar Conference, Josh Waterston led a panel discussion on how AI is impacting legal practice and the courts. He was joined by the Hon. William C. Mackrides, the Hon.
