At the PA Bar Association Intellectual Property Section's July 15, 2025 meeting, Josh and Lewis shared a brief update on how AI is impacting intellectual property law. Topics included contract best practices, AI-generated deepfakes and music, and recent fair use and trademark cases.

2024 PBI Technology Institute presentation: "Who Owns That?: Guiding Intellectual Property Clients Through the A.I. Labyrinth"
In this presentation, Fred Wilf, Josh Waterston, and Lewis Sorokin discussed intellectual property issues posed by AI, including recent litigation, proposals for legislation and regulation, current efforts by individuals and the tech industry to mitigate IP risks, and best practices for both clients and lawyers in an era of uncertainty. Attendees gained the insights necessary to effectively counsel clients on the issues facing this groundbreaking new technology.

A.I., Esquire, Evolved: More Promises and Pitfalls of Using Artificial Intelligence in Your Law Firm
Joshua D. Waterston and Lewis D. Sorokin were joined by Judge Margaret Amoroso, and educated lawyers and paralegals about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by law firms during this presentation at the Delaware County Bar Association on March 6, 2024.
Josh Waterston and Lewis Sorokin demonstrated the newest uses of AI, shared examples of how a potential client could use AI (and then quickly need legal services), and discussed AI tools for law firms, using AI in court, and practical guidance in using this groundbreaking technology.

A.I., Esquire – The Promise and Pitfalls of Using Artificial Intelligence in Your Law Firm
Joshua D. Waterston and Lewis D. Sorokin educated lawyers and paralegals about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) by law firms during this presentation at the Delaware County Bar Association on November 29, 2023. AI chatbots have become useful tools for the public, and AI could transform the practice of law through efficient research, analysis, and even document preparation. However, lawyers must follow ethical requirements, such as client confidentiality, as they leverage this new technology.

Disruption in Music Through Artificial Intelligence, From a Legal Perspective
Lewis Sorokin presented this guest lecture on November 8, 2023 for the "Creative Disruption" course in the Music Industry undergraduate program at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts and Design.

Lewis Sorokin is an associate attorney with Wilftek, where he practices intellectual property and technology law. He focuses on the legal issues arising from the use and implementation of technology in businesses and other organizations.
Lewis is actively engaged in both the legal community and the broader professional community around emerging technology. He currently serves as the Vice Chair and copyright committee head of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section, and as a Young Lawyer Fellow for the American Bar Association Intellectual Property Section. He is also involved with the Copyright Society, IAPP, Water & Music, and several other professional organizations at the nexus of technology, the arts, and intellectual property.
Lewis’ writings on topics surrounding technology, the arts, and law have been published in the Drexel Law Review, The Legal Intelligencer, IPWatchdog, Hypebot, and Full Rate No Cap. His articles about artificial intelligence and rights of publicity have been taught in law school classes, and he has been quoted in World Trademark Review. Lewis has also spoken at Drexel University, PBI, Trenton Computer Festival, WXPN Non-CommVention, NFT Philly, and several bar associations. Lewis has also served as adjunct faculty at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts and Design in the Music Industry Program, teaching Music Industry Contracts and Legal Issues.
Lewis earned his law degree from Drexel University’s Thomas R. Kline School of Law with a concentration in intellectual property, with honors, and was an editor for the Drexel Law Review. Lewis has also received the AI Governance and Strategy certification from University of Pennsylvania Wharton Online. During law school, Lewis worked as a judicial intern for Hon. Lois H. Goodman, USMJ of the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Lewis also volunteered during law school as a legal services coordinator for Philadelphia Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and as a faculty research fellow for Prof. Adam Benforado on his book A Minor Revolution: How Prioritizing Kids Benefits Us All.
Prior to joining Wilftek, Lewis was associated with a boutique entertainment and general practice law firm, where he represented musicians, filmmakers, playwrights, online content creators, and entrepreneurs for intellectual property matters and civil litigation.
Lewis is a member of the Pennsylvania and New Jersey Bars, as well as the Bars of several federal courts. He has also received the Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP) certification from the IAPP.
