What makes a strong trademark?
In trademark law, the spectrum of distinctiveness explains how strong a brand name is based on how uniquely it identifies a source of goods or services.
Marks range from generic and descriptive terms, which receive little or no protection, to suggestive, arbitrary, and fanciful marks, which are inherently distinctive and easier to protect.
Knowing where a mark falls on this spectrum helps you assess your ability to register and enforce a trademark, and determine its overall brand strength.
